Bulgarian real estate firm says its Strandja
land unaffected by Natura 2000
The
Strandja National Park
which was opened in
1995, encompasses the
Bulgarian portion of the
Strandja mountain and
covers a total area
of 1161 sq km which
makes it the largest
protected area in
Bulgaria. The park is
home to 261 species of
Birds, 65 species of
mammal and 1665 plant
species. The Park is
considered to be
particularly important
for its rich
biodiversity and not
without good reason -
68% of all Bird species,
75% of all mammalian
species and 47% of all
plant species are to be
found there and many of
these are unique to
Strandja.
N.B
General has certified
with the Ministry of
Environment and Water
of Bulgaria (MEWB)
that its land is not
affected by Natura
2000. The Bulgarian
based firm has a
portfolio of
development land
totalling 200 000 sq m
located close to the Strandja
National Park,
a national
conservation area. "Natura
2000 will have a big
impact on the real
estate market in
Bulgaria as the
current proposals mean
that up to 34% of the
territory of Bulgaria
could fall into the
Natura 2000 network of
protected sites", said
Baber Shah, General
Manager of N.B
General. "We think
there is a potential
for investors to get
their fingers burned
if they have not
carried out the the
necessary research
beforehand"
