TURKEY has won top marks in
all categories in a survey
produced by a leading magazine
in the German tourism
industry.
The country upped its position
in almost all of the nine
categories accredited by
Tourist Report magazine, among
12 Mediterranean and Black Sea
region nations popular with
German tourists.
Overall, Turkey came second
behind the Balearic Islands,
but ahead of Spain in third
position - a decision made by
34 tourism specialists.
Turkey came first for hotel
quality, service quality and
marketing. The report stated
that 80 per cent of the
reviewers had rated Turkey's
hotels as either 'good' or
'very good' - an extremely
high result.
Similarly, the service
industry received an
outstanding review, as the
report said this was the
hardest section to judge and
the most important evaluation.
Turkey's advertising campaign,
which uses the slogan "Turkey
welcomes you" and has been
visible on the television and
billboards in the UK, led to
the marketing award.
Turkey was awarded second
place in the airway connection
category, although this was a
rise of two places from last
year and ahead of Spain.
The 12 countries compared by
the report were the Balearic
Islands, Turkey, Spain, the
Canary Islands, Egypt,
Portugal, Italy, Morocco,
Greece, Tunisia, Croatia and
Bulgaria.
In a separate survey earlier
this year, Turkey was placed
52nd among 124 countries in
the World Economic Forum's
Travel & Tourism
Competitiveness Report.
