Wealthy Irish property hunters keen to have their own slice of sunshine in Portugal’s Silver Coast should talk to Miguel Pereira de Abreu, owner of Quintas de Óbidos, the
region’s most exclusive lakeside country club. “As we were finalising plans for the resort, I realised that Quintas de Óbidos would be perfect for Irish property buyers seeking
privacy and luxury”, says Miguel. “Here we are creating the ultimate in luxury lakeside living - our homeowners can choose from several top 18 hole golf courses nearby, and
they can also keep their horses here all year round at our world class equestrian centre, where costs are much lower than in Ireland.
“Irish eventers and show jumpers are already bringing horses to this region for training, and so we are delighted that top Irish show jumper Jessica Kurten, the recent British
Open Champion and member of the Irish national squad, is designing our equestrian centre, which is being purpose built to suit the needs of top equestrians”.
Quintas de Óbidos will also be sponsoring the 2007 Tattersalls International Horse Trials near Dublin from 31 May - 3rd June, where world class three day eventers like
Zara Phillips and William Fox-Pitt will be competing. Special Olympics Ireland, a year-round sport training and competition programme for children with learning disabilities,
is the official charity for the event, and is also being sponsored by Quintas de Óbidos.
Jessica Kurten says “I’m really delighted that Quintas de Óbidos is supporting both the Tattersalls Horse Trials and the Special Olympics, which is a truly worthy cause and
allows the children to display their skills during the competition.”
Back in Portugal, there are 69 plots remaining for sale at Quintas de Óbidos, where 1.3 acre plots start from Euros 520,000. Prices for complete properties which include
the land, a luxurious five bedroom villa, outdoor pool and all landscaping, range from Euros 1.4 to 1.8 million. Just 79 villas, each standing in at least an acre of lakeside gardens,
re to be built, with buyers choosing from one of 16 traditional designs from Portugal’s most respected architects. The estate also has its own helipad and a country club with spa
and pools. Jessica Kurten can clearly see the resort appealing to Irish buyers. “Quintas de Óbidos is a unique place where privacy and exclusivity are assured by generous plots
of land framed by fantastic fresh water lakes. The villas are simply amazing”.
Quintas de Óbidos obviously appeals to upmarket buyers – in the 9 short weeks since the sales launch, 10 of the original 79 plots have already been sold to international buyers
through word of mouth. These buyers will also see an early return on their investment, as the price of the remaining plots will rise by 16% as soon as the first 20 plots have been sold.
Buyers of the remaining plots are expected to be wealthy golfers and horse lovers from around Europe attracted by the country club concept and keen to own an exclusive and
private home within 45 minutes of Lisbon and its airport, where they can enjoy a beach lifestyle, play golf, ride, and experience the ‘real’ Portugal.
